Reaching for New Heights and Revealing Unknowns
The NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC), originally named the Manned Spacecraft Center, was named after former President Lydon B. Johnson in February 1973. JSC is one of ten major NASA field centers for spaceflight training, research, and flight control.
The NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) was established as the control center for NASA to coordinate and monitor all human spaceflight for the United States. Most of the planning and training of United States astronauts are handled at JSC, as well as, training facilities (Sonny Carter Training Facility and Neutral Buoyancy Labratory) that are vital in preparing US astronauts for spacewalks and being familiar with the dynamics of body motion in weightless conditions.
The NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) is located on NASA Parkway next to NASA Space Center Houston in the Clear Lake area of the Bay Houston Area within the state of Texas. Both the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) and NASA Space Center Houston are popular tourists stops and destination points for educational field trips by the Clear Creek ISD and Friendswood ISD schools.
