LEAGUE CITY, Texas -- The City of League City will join with others across the nation in commemoration of the eleventh anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks. Mayor Tim Paulissen is asking residents to join him for a short and informal gathering at the flagpole at 200 W Walker at 5:30 p.m. on September 11 to remember the sacrifices made, and the lives lost, during the worst act of terrorism on American soil. Residents will also gather to recognize the strength that came as our nation reached out and our communities pulled together. The mayor will also present a proclamation during the September 11 Council meeting asking citizens to observe September 11 as a day of service and remembrance.

“While the tragedy of 9/11 still haunts many of us today, it’s important for us all to remember the perseverance the American people have shown since that day. I invite our entire community to take a few minutes and gather with me, your elected officials and city staff to reflect, remember and honor,” said League City Mayor Tim Paulissen.

In addition to the community gathering the City has also produced a September 11 commemoration video, which is posted at www.leaguecity.com/remember and on LCTV-16 at key moments of remembrance:

9:03 a.m. – plane hits South Tower

9:37 a.m. – plane hits Pentagon

9:59 a.m. – South Tower collapses

10:03 a.m. – citizens take plane down in Pennsylvania

10:38 a.m. – North Tower collapses

September 11 at 9 a.m. the League City Volunteer Fire Department will hold its third annual stair climb at the drill field at 911 S. Kansas. Firefighters will climb 110 flights of stairs in honor of those who gave their all in the September 11 attacks. Citizens are invited to participate in the stair climb. More information about each of event is posted on the City website.
