Reception hosted for supporters of UHCL Model Arab League student delegation
CLEAR LAKE, Texas -- Longtime University of Houston-Clear Lake friends Ann Wismer-Landolt and Mike Landolt were honored during a special reception for their generous gift to assist the university’s Model Arab League student delegation attend a national conference in Washington, D.C.
Held annually, the National University Model Arab League started as an informal demonstration simulation at Georgetown University in 1983. Over the years, the league has grown to host more than 300 students from 22 colleges and universities annually in an academic debate forum centered on issues relevant to the League of Arab States that comprises 22 Arab nations. The UHCL team earned an invitation to represent the country of Lebanon at the national meeting after its stellar presentation of Egyptian positions at the regional council meeting held in Houston in March.
One UHCL team member received an honorable mention, which garnered the entire team an invitation to next year’s national event. The financial assistance the group received from the Landolts allowed the nine students who attended the National Council and their faculty advisers to focus on the competition rather than having to raise funds for travel and lodging.
